SEO - 3 Things You Can Do To Improve Your Search Engine Rank

SEO EXPERTS

First, I am not an expert - far from it. I know a lot more that I did last month, last month I made some significant gains, as I did the month before that. I believe that it will continue this way for many more years. Luckily I have really good mentors, and I spend lots of time testing, Then retesting, and testing again. What I can offer is some first hand experience that, if applied, will get you on the right track.

I find that there an internet full of experts, and a few of them have parted me and my dollars under the promise of teaching me how to play the Google game - I can be number one on the search engines. I think everyone has been tempted by them - “$69 or $259 or what-ever will get you to the number one spot on Google”, or some similar pitch.

There are two pionts I would like to point out before I continue. First, I find two kinds of SEO experts on the Internet; the ones that really are experts and don’t need to hype their expertise, and the scam artists. The real experts have a solid knowledge of what it takes to help you get recognized among nine billion other sites, they are not the ones emailing you everyday or making huge claims when you do a search for SEO. The ones that I have dubbed scam artists usually have never actually practiced what they are preaching, or they feed you a good story while protecting the “Big Secret”. Caution: They are everywhere.

My second point, and when you grasp this point you will understand why so much of the sales pitches are just hype, is that nobody, except the few geeks locked away in the basement of Google and fed Mickey-D’s through the bars, really knows how Google’s (or any other major search engine’s) algorithms work. Suffice it to say that over the years these algorithms have become very sophisticated; complicated enough that the easy fixes that we are teased with won’t work. Couple that with the fact there are lots of sites who have been doing this for a very long time and have either earned or bought the right to be at the top of any searches you do, and you can see that it’s not some magic formula for instant success. However, if you work hard, and follow a few simple rules, you can begin climbing to better and better positions with the search engines.

So, you could reasonably ask the question “if this is so, how is it that there are some experts that can play the Google game so well?”. It is this question that I hope to shed some light on. First, I’m going to dispel some myths mostly created by the Hype Artists.

MYTHS

1. You need a thousand link-backs to raise your Page Rank. I will never discount page ranking, but there is some reliable evidence, including some conversations on the Google blogs that included Google employees that suggests that the Page Rank you see listed on your Google bar is not the one Google uses for determining who gets placed in what position on any search. Second, there seems to be a lot more that goes into page ranking then just link-backs. My advice here is to gather link-backs when ever a good opportunity presents it’s self, but make sure the site is relevant to yours and that they are in good standing with the search engines. Irrelevant or shady sites are worse that no links-backs at all. Just as in the real world, you will get punished if you hang around with the wrong crowd. The only link-backs I have at this time are from Ezine articles, and my Ecommerce site is climbing steady in the rankings.

2. You need tons of traffic, traffic of any kind to get you listed near the top. Well, yes, Google’s crawler does pay attention to how much traffic your site gets, but they also pay attention the quality of that traffic. It is not hard for a crawler to determine e if the traffic is coming from a few servers, and if it is being referred because of so shady advertising. Paying a shyster to artificially deliver traffic works for the short term, but when the crawlers get all of the facts you, they drop you like a hot rock - so how was your moment of glory? My advice - make sure your traffic is coming to your site for the right reason. It takes longer, but it is also long lasting and can become repeat business, which then increases you traffic again. My latest Ecommerce site is getting only about 50 hits a day, but those hits are converting reasonably, and I am up to page 2 on a lot of my keywords and phrases. For me, the most important this is the conversion rate in the beginning, If I can get the conversion rate to be in the double digits, then as I increase my traffic, it will mean more dollars stick to me. Keep in mind as you judge those figures that I’ve only been active for two months at this writing. I know those numbers are far from impressive, but I have done it all without paid help, and I test every change. That’s how I learn what makes the beasts happy. I’ll talk about how to do that later.

3. Load up with key words. Keywords are important. The use of keywords and their placement are a major factor a search engine uses to decide your sites worth in regards to positioning. However, smart things that they are, they are also concerned about two things. Are they part of content that is serving a useful purpose to the visitor, and are you stacking them just for the search engines sake. Much of the hype will have you believe that you need to get your keyword scattered around the page as much as you can for tha search engines sake. It should come as no surprise that the search engines are continually being refined to determine how the keywords tie in with interesting and useful content on each page that it indexes. Keywords need to be used in content in ways that make sense to the visitor and provides information of interest them.

WHAT TO DO

I was driven to experiment by two factors; first, I could not afford the real experts in SEO. Second, I have a desire to not only accomplish my goal, but to learn the why and how, and understand it thoroughly. To succeed, you are going to have to understand and think like a search engine - even if we will never know the algorithms. Google has an exact agenda. Forget about its algorithms and figure out its goal.

GOOGLE’S GOAL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT EACH TIME A SEARCH IS PERFORMED THEY DELIVER THE BEST CONTENT AVAILABLE

Search Engines lose clients when they deliver sites whose content is not what the searcher was looking for. Five years ago, all of the things the hucksters are still pitching really did work, but as scammers tried to trick the system and bastardize the search, Google and other search engines created complicated algorithms detect these scams. Thinking like a search engine is a little easier than you might think. Just ask yourself - when I search for this keyword or phrase, what do I want the SE to show me? Once you thin like that, the rest is just following a few simple rules and having patience and tenacity of purpose.

Please read all before initiating any of them so you have a whole picture:

1. TEST ALL CHANGES- Test every change, then test again, and then test. Testing and then allowing time for the search engines re-visit your site will show you which changes helped, which were detrimental, and which did nothing. Search Engines usually cawl once every 30 days if you haven’t done anything to give it a reason to crawl more often. If it doesn’t see any changes, it make wait longer between each search. There are some easy methods to get the search engines to crawl you on a more timely basis. You will discover them as you read on.

2. Link Backs - Google doesn’t like link farms, sites who advertise they will get you tons of links. Scrutinize directories before joining. Check their page ranking among other things. There are two good methods to get link-backs. First,the tedious job of finding other websites that have relevance to yours (a site on how fabric is made to link to your clothing store), then approaching them on the possibility of linking to yours. These are hard to persuade, but as time goes on, they will come. If you must pay for a back link, make sure they are worth it in relevance and page rank, and do not tell anyone you paid for it - that’s a no-no with Google.

Second, and the most effective, is to write a 500 to 700 word article about your industry and start placing it in Ezines (which is exactly why I placed this article here!). Never write it as a sales pitch. Write some interesting aspect of your industry that will be strictly informative. You can do a search of your industry and pick out lots of good stuff from several articles, then write it in your own words. Never plagerize. Not only is it unethical, the search engines will punish you for duplicate content. Notice at the bottom of this article there is a link to my site. With this link, I get a little business from people who read my article, but I get a lot of link credit, especially when I broadcast the article to 40 or 50 other sites. There are sites who will, for a small fe, do the broadcasting for you (more about that in my next article). Search engines generally crawl the good Ezines several times a week, and they crawl every link listed on the Ezine site, so they crawl your site again and again. Write well, write often.

3. Tons of Traffic - Traffic is good. Google like to see traffic, but they can tell the difference between real traffic and manufactured traffic. There are lots of scams out there that advertise that they will deliver instant traffic, but it is all trick traffic. This traffic isn’t shopping your site, and most aren’t staying long enough to impress a search engine, like zero seconds! There are a lot of good ways to build good traffic, too many to go into here, and first you have to get your site SE optimized.

4. Load up on Keywords - We mean Content - The content on your site is the single most important thing to the major search engines. Even if what you need to display is pages and pages of items for sale, you have to pay attention to content. First, make sure your “title” in the header of your code is different for each page and contains key words for that page. Don’t try to use your title to load up on keywords. Determine the main theme of each page and use your top teir keword for that theme in 2 or three different ways (clothing | men’s slacks | work pants), You will get demerits for having the title the same on every page or not relevant to your page content. Using the clothing example, on the page that displays T-shirts, your title should have “T-shirt” separated by a “|” and then “tee shirt” (without the quotes), another separation and any other descriptive word for T-shirt. When you go to the sweatshirt page, put two or three keywords in the title of that page that are something that someone would use to search for sweatshirts, and make sure those keywords are used in the content of that page (3-7% of total word count). There site available that will do the work count for you and tell you the percent of each word..

If your site is an Ecommerce site, as much as it doesn’t seem like a good idea, put a large paragraph somewhere on the page that describes the products. I usually put it at the bottom so it does not interfere with visitors finding my product upon entry. Your main keyword should appear in the content only 3-7% of the total word count for the entire page - no more, no less. Do a total word count on the page before you start, which will include text-links and item descriptions, and make sure the new paragraph has at leas as many words at the rest of the page. This is where the search engines judge whether you are delivering what the visitor wants. Regardless whether it is an Ecommerce site, or a service or information hub, keep the content on subject, no duplications and always good information.

WARNING: DO NOT COPY content, not from other pages on your site, and without fail, never, ever from another site. You could get punished severely for duplicate content, not to mention it is plagiarism. Google has a Duplicate Content Island which you could be banned to. Be creative or hire a creative writer.

This is by far not all there is to good SEO work, but it’s a real good start. If you do this correctly, you will see results and can then move on to more sophisticated tools.

I hope this has been some help. Feel free to email me with any input or questions. Stay tuned for my next article where I talk about some specific tools you will need to help you navigate this jungle.

SEO Tips: Link Building

Friday, May 30th, 2008

This article is a follow-up to an article I wrote about On-Page Optimization . On-Page optimization enables each of your web pages to make the most out of the mojo that they have — but you need inbound links to create that mojo in the first place.

I use the term “mojo” as a generic descriptor for the importance given to a web page or a web site based upon inbound links. Similar terms include page rank, site rank, trust rank, and authority. Those terms tend to carry too much linguistic baggage, so I use the term “mojo” for simplicity unless another term is specifically required.

Mojo is created by getting inbound links to your web site and to your web pages.

Getting inbound links is one of the most important, and time consuming, tasks involved in SEO.

Here are a few tips to generate inbound links. Each of these tips are appropriate for some web sites, but none are appropriate for all web sites. Select the link building strategies which are most appropriate for your specific web site.

Submit to Web Directories

Start with big slow directories like the Yahoo Directory and the DMOZ Open Directory Project, but don’t stop there.

Search out the small directories which are dedicated to topics relevant to your web site.

For more suggestions on finding directories to submit to, read How can I find web directories?

Reciprocal Linking

Write individual e-mails to specific webmasters whose web pages compliment your own and tell them that you would like to trade links with them.

Make sure to personalize each e-mail, or your e-mails will be quickly deleted as spam.

To achieve the best results from your e-mail, include the following in your initial e-mail:

* Mention two positive items about their web site, so that they know that your e-mail is not a generic spam.

* Include directions to the specific web page where you have added the link to their web site.

* Mention the Page Rank of the page where you have added a link to their web site.

These web sites exist to help you search for reciprocal link partners in the same market niche’ as your web site:

* Find Link Partners

* Link Partner Finder

* Themes Reciprocal Link Finder

Write Articles for Other Web Sites

One method for getting inbound links is to write quality articles and submit them to other web sites for publication.

Each article should include a link back to your web site.

These links are better than links from link pages, because there tend to be very few outbound links on the article page.

Write a brief article on some topic related to the topic of your web site. Do not write an article about your web site, but write an article that would be interesting to people who would also be interested in your web site.

Send this article to webmasters who maintain web sites on topics similar to the topic of your article. Explain to them that they can post your article for free on their web sites, in return for a link to your web site.

To find web sites to submit articles for publication, visit Where can I submit an article for publication?

Create and Submit Press Releases

Write press releases about your web site and submit them to press release distribution services.

To find places to submit press releases for publication, visit Where can I submit my press release?

Join a Reciprocal Link Program

Reciprocal linking programs exist to help webmasters share links with similar web sites.

Some of the reciprocal link programs are:

* Link Market

* Info Wizards

* LinkExchanged

* Link Partners

* Links-Pal

* Linkateer

* Webmaster Link Exchange

* GoTop Link Exchange ($19.95 fee to join)

* LinkLeads

* Link Traders

* LinkExchangeIt

* SiteSell

* 123ExchangeLinks

* Ads4Links

* Spocka

* Links For You

If you have a blog, try blogLinker, the automatic link swapper for blogs.

These link networks can generate a lot of e-mail. You will probably want to create a new e-mail account just for these networks.

Join the DigitalPoint Ad Network

The DigitalPoint Coop Advertising Network enables you to automatically trade links with thousands of web sites across the Internet.

Join a Reciprocal Linking Forum

Several web forums exist for the purpose of sharing and trading reciprocal links. These linking forums include:

LinkRequests Link Trade Forum

Start a Reciprocal Linking Program on Your Web Site

You can also setup a reciprocal linking program on your own web site.

For more information on setting up a reciprocal linking program on your site, read How can I add a reciprocal link manager to my web site?

Start or Join a Web Ring

You can use an existing web ring service such as WebRing, or you can create your own web ring using the PHP-Ring webring script.

Join or Create a Top Site List

Search for top site lists which are relevant to your web site.

Add yourself to the existing lists. If no relevant top site lists exist, create one.

Provide a Useful Service

Create dynamic content on your web site which other web masters can include on their web sites by linking to it.

Every webmaster who uses your content automatically adds a link to your site.

Firearm News is an excellent example of this. If you add a small bit of JavaScript to your web page, your users will receive up-to-date news on firearms.

Of course, you will also have to contact other webmasters to let them know about your service — perhaps even with a press release.

Buy Links

If all else fails, you can always buy links to your web site.

Affiliate Marketing - Why You Should Purchase And Use The Affiliate Products Before Promotion

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Trust between the affiliates and the customer is a very important factor in a successful affiliate marketing business. When you want to promote any affiliate products, you should be thinking of the benefits that the customer will get if they purchase instead of purely thinking about the commissions. This article will state why you should purchase or use the affiliate product before you even promote to your customer.

Your main purpose of the affiliate is to effectively promote the products to the customer. You will only be able to do that when you have a good understanding of the products and you yourself have benefit from it. Once you have tried the product and you have benefit from it, you will be the living testimonial and you will be able to recommend with confidence to your customer that they will definitely benefit from it if they purchase the product.

If you are wiling to put in the extra time and money to personally purchase and try out the product, your customer will be able to feel the honesty and sincerity that you want to project to them and they will also be more encouraged to try our the program by themselves.

Thus do not make the mistake of not purchasing and using the products before any promotion. If you are only interested in money and you just randomly promote any products, your customer will feel that you are not sincere in helping and you are not being honest. This will directly affect your business and you will note have a long term affiliate marketing business.

Making Sense of Pay-Per-Click Advertising - 5 Adwords Myths

Friday, May 30th, 2008

It can be overwhelming if you do not know much about pay-per-click advertising or are new to the PPC game. There is a ton of information out there and not quite possible for anyone to consume it all. But that should not stop you from venturing into pay-per-click advertising as a means of promoting your website for more sales and subscriptions. This article will dispel some misconceptions and show you some truths to the current myths surrounding Adwords.

Sad to say, most people are not optimizing their pay-per-click advertising. I offer here 5 myths of Adwords and reveal my thoughts about them. This will be useful to your campaign efforts, so make sure to read and consider them carefully.

1. You Need To Take No.1 Spot

Some marketers think that they must be in the coveted top spot to get targeted traffic. There are advertisers who would pay top dollars just to be in the ??yellow? portion up there above the Google search results. Those who do not know what they are doing end up losing their pants. So the truth is this, you do not need top spot to get real targeted traffic. Many of these are free clickers, not serious buyers actually according to studies done.

The best ad position is within position 4 ?” 6. Think about it, if the prospect is willing to scroll down to that ad placement, there is a likelihood that he or she is really eyeing for some relevant ads right? Some experts argue that position 9 is a good spot because if your prospect is genuinely interested in buying, they would look through the various options even to the second page of the search results.

2. You Need A Killer Relevant Website Address

This is correct. If you are selling cars and your website address is hireadriver.com, this is not very relevant and it is quite unlikely that people would visit. Make it relevant and give a killer touch. Go for something like BuyACar-On-Offer.com.

3. You Need Thousands of Keywords Running All The Time For Your Campaign

Friends, you do not need thousands of keywords in your ad campaign. While it is true that you need to start off with a sizeable keyword list, a few hundred will do and they are meant for initial testings. Subsequently, once you figure out which are the best targeted keyword, use them only. This could even mean using only 3 or 4 keywords.

4. You Can Just Send Your Customers Directly To Affiliate Sales Page

This used to work well in the past when Google Cashing was all the craze. Today, if you attempt this stance at Adwords, your ad campaigns will halt after a while. Adwords clamp down quite a great deal in the name of poor quality score that dilutes the effectiveness and quality of their ads. So make sure you have a proper content site to promote with PPC.

5. Single Landing Pages Are Ideal For Pay-Per-Click Advertising

This is yet another lie many would want you to believe in. The truth of the matter is Adwords has changed the rules so much that simple one-page landing pages just wouldn??t perform well anymore. You now need a proper content web page that is part of an overall website in order to rank well in quality score.

SEO Basics - 8 Key Strategies For Online Business Success

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The world of search engine optimization (SEO) can be a big scary place for newbies. Most SEO professional companies charge astronomical prices that may or may not guarantee success.

The search engines are forever changing the way they rank websites and what is important to achieve a higher ranking. Even with these everchanging factors, there are 8 important points that you must use with your website that are not likely to change any time soon.

1. Domain Name
It is better to register a domain with a keyword in it, unless you are trying to brand yourself (think Coca Cola or Ebay). For instance, if your name is John Smith and you sell golf items you would be better off by registering a name like www.golfproducts.com instead of www.johnsmith.com.

Unfortunately with millions of website domain names being purchased all the time, finding a related domain name not already taken can be a daunting task. Still it is worth it in the end because it will carry more significance with the search engines.

2. Title Tag
This is an often overlooked place to input keywords. Have you ever been to a website and the bar at the top of the page just said ‘untitled’ or ‘homepage’? That reflects how little the site designer knew about SEO. Always put a descriptive title on EVERY page of your website. Put something like ‘Find golf clubs, golf clothes and the latest pro golf tips’, instead of ‘John’s golf shop’.

Make sure not to go overboard and just list 10 or more keywords or long sentences in a row or the search engines will think you are trying to spam them. Think quality over quantity. The title tag should contain one keyword rich descriptive sentence.

3. Meta Tags
The importance of meta tags in today’s SEO world is still being debated. It is still advisable to include a meta tag keywords and meta tag description in your code. A lot of times the search engines will pull your description tag to show in your websites search result. If nothing is there it may not show anything at all or it may pull the first sentence off of your page which might be completely irrelevent to your intended audience.

Do not, I repeat do not list 100 or more keywords in the keyword tag. This technique used to work years ago, but the search engines recognize this technique and will consider it spam. Place no more than 10 keywords in the meta keywords tag.

4. Link Strategies
Another important tip is to include keywords when linking to other websites or pages within your own site. For example it is better to have a sentence like this ‘Find out the latest professional golf tips.’ then to say ‘click here for the latest professional golf tips.’ This also applies to any outbound links to other related websites. Include keywords on the part you want the visitors to click on.

Same goes for incoming links to your site. If someone wants to link to your site give them the code to paste in their website instead of leaving them to do it on their own. Have something like ‘Check out John’s Golf shop for the best golf clubs, golf info and golf tips.” This is much better than ‘Click here for John’s Golf Shop’. Search engines also like longer more descriptive links than just one or two words.

5. Relevant Content
Make sure that you provide only relevant information to what your actually offering or selling. If you have a bunch of unrelated info on a wide range of topics than the search engines will have a harder time pinpointing exactly what it is your site is about. So if your selling golf stuff stick to golf content, don’t throw in articles or links about scuba diving.

6. PageRank
This is still a relatively new term and applies to an algorithm that google’s search engine uses. Other search engines use similar strategies to google’s PageRank also.

Basically PageRank is used to define how popular your website is. The more relevant inbound links you have coming into your website the higher your PageRank will be. Google also has a toolbar that you can download for free that will show you a site’s PageRank. The best way to go about getting inbound links is to find related websites with a PageRank of 5 or higher. Then asking them to include a link to your site (giving them the proper code to paste in).

Another way you can receive a higher PageRank is to have a ton of content on many different pages and then linking all the pages together in a way that will raise your PageRank. With that said this type of strategy will not boost your PageRank tremendously, so if your site doesn’t contain thousands of pages don’t stress over it. It is important though to link strategically with keywords between the pages of your site.

You can download google’s toolbar at http://toolbar.google.com/

7. <H1> This is an HTML header tag used to define size of text within the tag. Search engines place more importance on text that is placed within the H1 tag. It’s like telling the search engines that ‘hey this text is important to my site’. The problem is that it can look unsightly. There are ways around this if you know about CSS styles, but for this basic intro article just know that in the end most people won’t be bothered by how the heading looks, and it will make the search engines like you more.

8. Creating Credibility
An often overlooked part of free publicity for your website is writing free articles like this one that relates to your intended audience. There are many websites on the internet where you can submit your articles for other people to place on their websites. I even employ this same strategy for my website. It’s really a win win situation. They win because they get quality relevant content for their site and you win because your name and website info is included at the bottom of the article, driving traffic to your site.

You increase your inbound links (PageRank) and provide free publicity for your website. It gets your name out there branding you an expert in your field of expertise and provides free web traffic to your site.

Email Marketing Tips - 3 Simple Effective Email Marketing Tips

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Email marketing is a powerhouse of an income generator for your online business and the following tips are sure to boost your results.

Email Marketing Tip #1 - Use your existing database of leads to help you add even more leads to your list. This is a very rarely used technique that is very powerful.

You can give a free report to your current leads and let them give it away. Inside the report you can brand it so that for each one your subscribers give away, they get a percentage of any sales made on your products.

Imagine having two or three hundred people giving away your freebie and each one of them giving ten or twenty subscribers each.

Email Marketing Tip #2 - Never stop adding leads to your list. Just because you think you might have hundreds or thousands of leads on your list, does not mean you should stop adding to it.

Your email marketing profits will be a direct result of how many leads you have on your list.

You should be making about fifty cents to one dollar per lead on your list. So the more leads, the more profits. Very simple math will tell you that having a list of five thousand should be able to earn you nice monthly income.

Email Marketing Tip #3 - Use as many proven methods as you can to add fresh leads to your list. Strive each day to add atleast ten new leads.

You can add the leads by using a variety of proven email marketing techniques such as: writing and submitting articles, coregistration, ezine advertising, ad swapping, and many others.

The bottom line is to use as many of these email marketing tips as you can and keep putting a constant and consistent effort into it.

Smart Marketing For Inventors Chapter 2 - Turning Your Invention Into A Marketable Product

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

There are many smart inventors who come up with unique products which solve problems which were in need of being solved, which make life easier, and which save people’s lives. Yet many of these inventors do not have engineering degrees, are not designers, and many have no design experience at all. They typically do not have any marketing experience as well. As such, they do not realize the fact that their rough prototype of their invention will not succeed as a marketable product. This might be because of a number of factors such as:

1. the product based on the invention (hereinafter referred to as the product) does not meet a specific customer need;
2. the product does not aesthetically appeal to the customer;
3. the product is not designed to withstand the use and abuse to which customers will subject the product; and
4. the product is not properly packaged, advertised, and promoted to appeal to the customer.

Regarding factor 1, that the product does not meet a specific customer need, it should be remembered that the bottom line to any potential customer is whether the product fulfills an actual need of the customer, which need the customer may or may not realize they have. If the need is one the potential customer does not know he or she has, the marketing effort will need to include educating the potential customer as to the need and how the product meets that need. Needs of the potential customer include making their life more enjoyable, easier, etc.

Regarding factor 2, that the product does not aesthetically appeal to the customer, it should be remembered that the first thing a potential customer likely perceives is the overall look of the product. If the product has a look which appeals to the potential customer, they are more likely to further investigate the product to see what it is and how it works. Aesthetic appeal includes the overall lines of the product, that is, does the product have curved surfaces or angular surfaces, are the colors of the product appealing, is the product ergonomically designed to fit the human body, etc. Curved lines might be appropriate for certain products such as lounge chairs and kitchen mixers to give a modern, ergonomic look, whereas angular lines might be more appropriate for other products, such as hand tools such as chisels and axes.

Regarding factor 3, that the product is not designed to withstand the use and abuse to which customers will subject the product, it should be remembered that customers will use the product for uses which the inventor intended as well as uses which the inventor did not intend, nor even foresee such use. For example, a screw driver might be used as a chisel which is struck by a hammer. Care must be taken to make the product robust enough to withstand foreseeable unintended uses and to warn the customer of foreseeable hazardous uses such as by applying a warning sticker to the product and a warning on the packaging and on the instructional materials. Questions in this regard should be directed towards a lawyer specializing in the legal field of Products Liability, such as in most larger city yellow pages phonebook.

Finally, regarding factor 4, that the product is not properly packaged, advertised, and promoted to appeal to the customer, it should be remembered that the packaging of the product is part of the overall first impression the potential customer has of your product, and in the case of products which are not visible from within the packaging, are the only item of first impression to the potential customer. Therefore, a well thought out and designed packaging and advertising materials is essential to the success of many products. It should be clear from a not-so-lengthy viewing of these items what the product does for the potential customer. Remember, you typically only have from fractions of a second to several seconds to capture the potential customer’s attention and interest in your product. There are advertising and packaging design specialists in the yellow pages phone book of most larger cities which can be consulted for a fee, and many books on advertising at your local bookstore, library, and on the internet.

Using Google Adwords and Pay Per Click Advertising to Generate Traffic

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Google Adwords can be one of the most effective and affordable ways to drive traffic to your website. Recent estimates show that one in seven Google searchers clicks on the sponsored search results that appear above the organic results on the search engine results pages. This basically means that if you are willing to pay the price, you could capture one seventh of the Google searchers for any keyword you can think of. Obviously the price for a keyword like “cars” would be much higher than the price for a keyword like “article writers named Andy Keeler”, but this evidence shows that Google Adwords can be a powerful tool.

So how do you manage such a powerful system? You need to make sure that your ads are well constructed and very relevant to the search that was performed by the user. You also need to be careful not to pay too much for clicks. A general rule of thumb is that you do not want to pay more for an inbound click than the price you could sell an outbound advertisement click on your own website. It should be easy to figure out a reasonable price to pay for inbound clicks based on the price of the items or advertising space you sell on your website.

Every pay per click campaign should be managed by a professional. I have seen examples of pay per click campaigns that point to expired domain names. Even if you have to hire a person to manage your campaign, it will be worth the money.

How To Really Get Results With PPC Advertising

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Many individuals are turning to PPC advertising to generate an income stream from their website, whether in the internet marketing community they offer direct mail lead generation packages, master resell rights or is just a personal website. PPC stands for pay per click advertising, one of the fastest growing segments of internet advertising and one of the most lucrative to website developers. One of the most prominent companies closely associated with PPC advertising is Google Adwords, which is emerging as a leader in the online advertising industry and adds hundreds of websites to its ranks on a weekly basis.

PPC advertising is not complicated to understand and is really a simple innovation. Advertisements are placed on web pages using relevant keywords in the content of the web page to determine which advertisements should be placed on which web pages. The advertiser pays a set price for each lead that is generated by using the link that is provided on the web page.

The PPC service is beneficial for both the advertisers and the web developers that have created the web sites that the advertisements are placed on. Advertisers like the service because they are only paying for the leads that are actually generated, not potential leads that may never visit their web site to see what services they have to offer. The developers of the web sites that the advertisements are placed on also enjoy the service because they are paid a modest commission for every lead that is generated from their web site.

There are several ways that you can use to make your pay per click account with Google Adwords, or any other PPC advertising company, work for you and make the most out of your investment. The easiest way to have your PPC campaign become an effective marketing tool is to pick the keywords that you choose to focus on for your campaign very carefully. The keywords that are chosen for your campaign have the ability to either make your campaign a success or destroy the chance of leads being generated from your efforts.

Many individuals choose to go with the most popular keywords on the internet that are relevant to the services that they are offering on their website as the focus of their PPC campaign, like for example: master resell rights, selling software, internet marketing, among others. While the most popular keywords tend to generate the most leads, they are also the most expensive to procure and, since the advertiser pays the set rate for each time that their ads are clicked, the monthly tally for the campaign can get to be quite expensive.

Many of the most popular keywords must also be bid on, making it uncertain that you will even obtain the keywords that you would like to focus on. Other individuals choose to go with lesser known and less popular keywords for their PPC campaigns. Targeting video games versus targeting master resell rights for small business like we, is a whole different story.

Although these keywords may not generate as many leads for the business as the most popular keywords, the individual can narrow their focus to an audience that will be genuinely interested in the products that they have to offer and save a great deal of money on their pay per click advertising campaign. A PPC campaign can indeed generate a lot of business for a company, if done correctly.

Master Resell Rights are one of the opportunities any savy rising entrepreneur can benefit by stamping there name and start Selling Online Software

How to Boost Your Ad Response - Become a Google Rebel Now

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Can appearing to ‘break the rules’ in your market boost your Google PPC response?

Roger Hall here with a new killer Google secret I’ve recently discovered through in-depth Google research. And that’s just for starters.

Here’s what happened with this very special Google factor test.

Being a Rebel Attracts PPC Traffic?

I completed this all-new Google test earlier today. What I discovered can have a HUGE impact on YOUR online response.

But here’s the shocker: It doesn’t matter whether it’s radar detectors or knitting you’re into. You can quickly and easily do this too. As soon as you’ve finished discovering this secret.

What’s it all about? Well, let me ask you this;

Which version of the following Google ads do you think got;

a) the highest Click-Through Rate (CTR), and
b) Conversion Rate (CR)?

Version #1;
ClickBank Banned Him?
He’s been Banned by Clickbank
twice for Exposing this. Why?

Version #2;
Advice to ClickBank Users
This Has Been Banned by Clickbank.
Do Not Read it. Do Not Use. Ever.

Which one do you think got the best CTR, and which one the best CR?

Remember that a great CTR does diddly-squat, UNLESS it converts to an actual sale). Results are a bit further down this page.

Now, appearing to ‘break the rules’ of whatever market you’re in (thereby gaining the image of a ‘rebel’ in the eyes of your Google audience) really can attract more attention to your Google PPC text. This recent research strongly suggests this is true.

Just wait ’till you try this with your ads. Whatever, here’s the rest of the story;

In one of my Google PPC accounts, I’ve been generating traffic for a book on ‘undercover’ ClickBank affiliate techniques (just for the record… they’re all 100% legal - it’s just that not many people know about them). Anyway, Clickbank would not allow him to market his book on Clickbank for reasons they won’t share.

Too bad. But the author actually used this to his advantage by creating a marketing angle on his sales page, that actually heavily promoted the fact that the book had been ‘banned’ by Clickbank and so on.

Seriously. The page converts into sales at around 7%-10% (which is very good for an ebook). I’m not going to divulge the page address, because I don’t want you to think I’m pushing it to you, my valued readers.

Now pay attention: As you’ve seen above, I brought that theme into the Google ads. Here are the results;

Version #1;
ClickBank Banned Him?
He’s been Banned by Clickbank
twice for Exposing this. Why?

Version #1 Results; CTR=Good. CR=Average

Version #2;
Advice to ClickBank Users
This Has Been Banned by Clickbank.
Do Not Read it. Do Not Use. Ever.

Version #2 Results; CTR=Very Good. CR=Very Poor

Version #3;

ClickBank Undercover Secrets Now

Version #3 Results; CTR=Good. CR=Very Good

What’s the bottom line?

Version #2 was the most extreme in the ‘rebel’ department - and gained a large number of click-throughs. But it resulted in very few sales. Why?

Because it attracted a large number of ‘tire-kickers’ who were attracted by the ad, but were very poor prospects for an actual sale. Or, there may be a more sinister reason (see towards the end of this article).

Version #1 was OK, and had good rebel credentials while causing a decent level of sales to occur. Definitely worth a try in your market with a similar theme.

Version #3 was the best overall. A good CTR and a very good CR, which is vital. Try something similar with your ads.

It gets even better. TIP: Try the words “Advice for _______ ” in your Google ad’s headline (insert your target market on the blank line). That’s been a proven attention-getter in the direct mail world for many years. It’s certainly working for me in Google PPC.

And now, it can work for you too.
